ExaGrid Announces Expanded Backup Support With Addition Of Veeam And IBM AS400

Customers Gain Faster, More Reliable Backups and Restores with ExaGrid’s Disk Based Backup with Deduplication

Westborough, Mass., September 30, 2010 – ExaGrid Systems, Inc., the leader in cost-effective and scalable disk-based backup solutions with data deduplication, today announced expanded backup application and data source support including Veeam Software’s backup application and the IBM System i platform (AS400 or iSeries). The combination of ExaGrid’s award-winning disk-based backup with deduplication  with additional application and data source support enables customers to dramatically reduce backup and recovery times and cost-effectively protect more data on secure, reliable disk.

As more IT organizations move to disk-based backup with deduplication to reduce backup times and replace unreliable tape libraries, customers want to deploy a new disk backup system with no change to their existing environments.  "The additional backup application and data source capabilities further expand the range of environments and industry-leading applications supported by ExaGrid," said Marc Crespi, ExaGrid VP of Product Management."“An even broader range of customers can now achieve their backup goals with the fastest, most scalable disk appliance while also integrating quickly and easily with their existing infrastructures."

Support for Veeam Backup & Replication™
The combination of ExaGrid and Veeam’s industry-leading VMware data protection solution allows joint customers to utilize Veeam in VMware virtual environments on ExaGrid’s disk-based backup system utility share.

Veeam provides VMware data protection solutions, disaster recovery and VMware management solutions. A recent VMworld "Best of Show" winner, Veeam’s backup product uses technological advances in VMware to offer faster backups and recovery, reducing data protection costs.

"Through ExaGrid’s support of Veeam, customers can now target their Veeam-based VMware virtual machine backups to the ExaGrid appliance," said Doug Hazelman Veeam Software’s Senior Director of Product Strategy. "We are very pleased that ExaGrid has added support for Veeam, giving customers more options to significantly streamline and speed the backup process for virtual machines. We are also pleased to have ExaGrid participating in our v5 beta program."

Support for IBM AS400:
ExaGrid now supports the ability to protect data on the IBM System i platform, also known as iSeries or AS400. Customers  can store data in much smaller footprints with ExaGrid’s byte-level data deduplication. With ExaGrid’s post-process data deduplication, backups and restores can also be performed very quickly.
Veeam and the AS400 data join a growing list of leading backup applications supported by ExaGrid. Other test-certified applications include: CA ARCserve, CommVault Simpana, EMC NetWorker, HP Data Protector, Symantec NetBackup and Backup Exec, Microsoft SQL, Oracle RMAN, Linux/Unix "Dumps" and Vizioncore vRanger Pro.

With over 2,600 systems installed at more than 900 customer sites worldwide, ExaGrid has the industry’s second-largest installed base of disk backup appliances with data deduplication in mid-market and small enterprise companies. More than 190 Real-World ExaGrid Customer Success Stories are published on the company’s website.

About ExaGrid's Technology:
The ExaGrid system is a plug-and-play disk backup appliance that works with existing backup applications and enables faster and more reliable backups and restores. Customers report that backup time is reduced by 30 to 90 percent over traditional tape backup. ExaGrid's patented byte-level data deduplication technology and most recent backup compression reduces the amount of disk space needed by a range of 10:1 to as high as 50:1, or more, resulting in a cost that's comparable to traditional tape-based backup.

About ExaGrid Systems, Inc.:
ExaGrid offers the only disk-based backup appliance with data deduplication purpose-built for backup that leverages a unique architecture optimized for performance, scalability and price. The combination of post-process deduplication, most recent backup cache, and GRID scalability enables IT departments to achieve the shortest backup window and the fastest, most reliable restores, tape copy, and disaster recovery without performance degradation or forklift upgrades as data grows. With offices and distribution worldwide, ExaGrid has more than 2,600 systems installed at more than 650 customers, and 180 published customer success stories.
