ExaGrid CTO to Discuss Approaches to Data De-duplication
at Storage Networking World 2007
Westborough, - Mass. October 12, 2007 - ExaGrid Systems, Inc. (http://www.exagrid.com), the leader in cost-effective and scalable disk-based backup solutions with byte-level data de-duplication, today announced that David Therrien, founder and CTO, will present as part of a panel moderated by Arun Taneja, founder and consulting analyst, Taneja Group, titled, “The Varied Approaches to Data De-Duplication - Which Approach is Right for You?” at Storage Networking World 2007 in Dallas, TX on October 15. Participants in this session will learn about the different methodologies and technologies for de-duplicating data and the appropriate environments for each.
As many backup products with data de-duplication have now been rolled out, the discussion will revolve around the different approaches that exist today and how they compare to one another. In addition, the session will address the differences between post-process and inline data de-duplication, and the pros and cons of each.
As a result of participating in this session, attendees will be able to:
- Understand the different approaches to data de-duplication so that they can start to determine the right model for their particular environments;
- Discuss the important pros/cons of each approach to data de-duplication so that they can predict and measure the operational impact the technology may have on their environments; and
- Gain insight on the questions they should ask of vendors in order to know how to meet their current and future data protection needs.

About ExaGrid’s Technology
The ExaGrid system is a turnkey, plug-and-play solution that works with existing backup applications and enables faster and more reliable backups and restores. Customers report that backup time is reduced by 30 to 80 percent over traditional tape backup. ExaGrid’s patented byte-level data de-duplication technology and most recent backup compression, coupled with high-quality SATA storage, is on average 25 to 30 percent the price of standard disk storage without data de-duplication. This unique approach reduces the amount of disk space needed by a range of 10 to 50 to 1, or more.
About ExaGrid Systems, Inc.
Headquartered in Westborough, Massachusetts, ExaGrid is the leader in cost-effective and scalable disk-based backup solutions with byte-level data de-duplication. A highly scalable system that works with existing backup applications, the ExaGrid system is ideal for mid-market and small enterprise companies looking to quickly eliminate the hassles of tape backup while reducing their existing backup windows. ExaGrid’s patented approach minimizes the amount of data to be stored by providing standard data compression for the most recent backups along with byte-level data de-duplication technology for all previous backups. Customers can deploy the ExaGrid system at a primary site and at a second site to supplement or eliminate offsite tapes with a live data repository or for disaster recovery.
