St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, one of Maine’s leading acute care hospitals, sought alternatives to its existing tape-based backup system in order to reduce its 13-hour nightly backup window and to simplify its backup process. Before moving to disk, St. Mary’s backed data up to multiple tape libraries, with key servers and IBM Lotus Notes databases backed up to disk. Longtin and Crespi will discuss how St. Mary’s achieved 50:1 data de-duplication, reduced its backup window by 50% and significantly cut costs, while quickly meeting audit and government mandates for data recovery.
