CA CERTIFIES EXAGRID AS INTEROPERABLE
WITH BRIGHTSTOR® ARCSERVE® BACKUP
Offers Customers Rapid, Reliable and Resource Efficient Disk-Based Backup and Recovery
Westborough, - Mass. October 17, 2006 - ExaGrid Systems, Inc., the leader in cost-effective disk-based backup solutions, today announced that ExaGrid has been ca smart certified as interoperable with CA's BrightStor ARCserve Backup software, enabling organizations to combine essential backup-and-recovery functionality with SATA drive, compression and data reduction technology to perform fast, dependable disk-based backup and restores with minimized capacity requirements.
ExaGrid has received the ca smart seal of excellence, which is awarded to products that integrate seamlessly with CA's solutions. The ca smart program enables customers to take advantage of best-in-class enterprise technology while minimizing cost, time-to-benefit and risk.
"CA is committed to making the backup process simpler for customers choosing disk, tape or a mix of the two for their data protection strategies," said Frank Jablonski, director of product marketing for storage management at CA. "As a ca smart certified solution, ExaGrid in conjunction with BrightStor ARCserve Backup, fulfills this growing need for faster data protection and restoration."
Powell Plant Farms, one of the nation's largest flowering plant producers, is using the combined solution to back up 1TB of data from 12 Windows-based servers containing its corporate data and critical information from SAP. Before implementing the combined solution, the size of the backup window often required overnight backups to tape, causing concerns about the quality of restored data after a service interruption. Now, backups are performed daily in just 30 minutes, eliminating the need for physical tape and dramatically reducing risk of data loss.
"ExaGrid's work with CA ensures that we don't have to make huge changes to our backup operations to get the kind of reliability, restore speeds and affordability we require," said Ed Gresham, IT manager for Powell. "Since we started using ExaGrid as the disk-based target for BrightStor ARCserve Backup, our nightly backups have dropped to half an hour and are finished by 5:00 p.m. I check the ExaGrid system before I go home at night, and I sleep comfortably just knowing my backup worked."
ExaGrid is the industry's most cost-effective disk-based backup solution and is ideal for mid-market and small enterprise companies looking to quickly eliminate the hassles of tape backup. ExaGrid works with existing backup applications to provide faster and more reliable backups and restores. With ExaGrid, customers can experience a 30 to 80 percent reduction in their backup windows. ExaGrid's unique byte-level delta data reduction and last backup compression, along with high quality SATA drives, delivers turnkey disk-based backup at approximately 30 percent the price of standard drives without data reduction.
"ExaGrid is committed to delivering turnkey solutions that simply and easily integrate into existing environments, so customers can preserve their technology investments and processes," said Bill Andrews, president and CEO of ExaGrid. "Customers currently running BrightStor ARCserve Backup can now move completely to disk-based backup for on- and off-site systems. CA customers can gain faster and more reliable backups and restores while significantly reducing their backup windows."
BrightStor ARCserve Backup protects and ensures availability of critical applications and data from large data centers to back offices, providing a wide range of support for disk technologies, Storage Area Networks (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) environments.
Organizations using BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.1 and r11.5 can now look to ExaGrid as an alternative to tape for nightly backups. ExaGrid sits behind existing backup applications, such as BrightStor ARCserve Backup, providing faster and more reliable backups and restores. In a network running BrightStor ARCserve Backup, using ExaGrid in place of a tape backup system is as easy as pointing existing backup jobs at a NAS share on the ExaGrid system. Backup jobs are sent directly from the backup application to the ExaGrid for onsite backup to disk.
