Westborough, Mass., July 11, 2017 – ExaGrid®, a leading provider of next generation disk-based backup storage with data deduplication solutions, today announced record bookings and revenue for Q2 2017. ExaGrid grew double digits over the same quarter of the prior year, continuing its trend of progressive growth at a faster rate than that of the overall market and market share gain. ExaGrid continues to demonstrate success in the enterprise market as evidenced by its posting of a record number of new customer six-figure deals in the current quarter.

“ExaGrid posted another record quarter as the number of higher-value enterprise deals continues to rise,” said Bill Andrews, CEO and President of ExaGrid. “We are seeing the larger enterprise customers looking for better performance at a lower cost than the first generation of backup storage solutions can provide, and that’s what ExaGrid is uniquely positioned to deliver. ExaGrid delivers real savings while also improving backup and restore performance over deduplication in the backup application and over first generation inline scale-up deduplication appliances. We are seeing an increased need for longer term retention of backups and for VMs and data to be accessible in seconds to minutes after a disruptive event.”

First generation deduplication solutions were either built into a backup application media server or into a scale-up storage appliance. Customers did not truly understand the negative impact of data deduplication on backup until they deployed the first generation of products. All solutions reduce storage and WAN bandwidth to a degree, but only ExaGrid solves the three deduplication compute problems for faster backups, restores, and VM boots by leveraging its unique landing zone and scale-out architecture. After using first generation approaches of deduplication in the backup application or inline/scale-up deduplication appliances, customers are tired of these expensive and slow outdated approaches.

“Over 80% of ExaGrid’s newly acquired customers are replacing first generation deduplication approaches from Dell EMC Data Domain, HP StoreOnce, Commvault Deduplication, and the Veritas 5200/5300 series of appliances. These solutions can be cost prohibitive for backup storage and are also slow for backups, restores, and VM boots,” said Andrews.

ExaGrid is the only second generation backup storage vendor that has eliminated the three compute challenges inherent to backup storage with data deduplication. All backup storage vendors reduce storage and bandwidth to varying degrees but provide slow ingest rates because they perform data deduplication ‘inline.’ In addition, because they only store deduplicated data, restore speeds and VM boots are also very slow. ExaGrid’s ingest rate is three times faster – and restores/VM boots are up to ten times faster – than its closest competitor. Unlike the first generation vendors that only add capacity as data grows, ExaGrid appliances add compute with capacity, ensuring that the backup window remains fixed in length. Only ExaGrid uses a scale-out architecture with a unique loading zone, which holistically addresses all of the scalability and performance challenges of backup storage.

In the second quarter of 2017, ExaGrid:

ExaGrid’s published customer success stories and enterprise stories number just under 350, more than all other vendors in the space combined. These include a two-page narrative and customer quote, demonstrating how satisfied customers are with ExaGrid’s unique architectural approach, differentiated product, and unrivalled customer support. Customers consistently state that not only is the product best-in-class, but ‘it just works.’

Permanently Short Backup Window, and Lowest TCO in the Industry

Westborough, Mass., April 19, 2017 – ExaGrid®, a leading provider of next generation disk-based backup storage with data deduplication solutions, today announced its newly-released Version 5.0 that now provides advanced support for Oracle RMAN Channels, Veeam Scale-Out Backup Repository (SOBR), and replication to Amazon Web Services (AWS) public cloud for disaster recovery.

ExaGrid v5.0 allows its Oracle RMAN customers to use Oracle RMAN Channels with up to 25 appliances in an ExaGrid scale-out GRID system. “Sections” of data are sent to each appliance in parallel for improved performance and also for performance load balancing as RMAN Channels will send the next section of data to the next available appliance in the GRID. Unlike first generation scale-up deduplication appliances that have a single front-end controller and simply add disk shelves, each ExaGrid appliance includes CPU, memory, network ports, and disk. If any appliance fails in the GRID, RMAN Channels continues to send backup data to the remaining appliances. In the scale-up model, if the front-end controller fails, all backups stop. With ExaGrid’s scale-out appliances in a GRID and its global deduplication across the GRID coupled with RMAN Channels, if any appliance fails, the backups will continue uninterrupted with a natural failover approach. ExaGrid can take in up to a total of 1PB of database data or a single 1PB database into a single GRID. In addition, ExaGrid’s unique landing zone maintains the most recent backups in their undeduplicated native form for fast Oracle database restores, and all longer-term retention is kept in a deduplicated repository.

“Oracle database administrators and backup administrators struggle to have fast Oracle backups and even more so fast restores,” said Bill Andrews ExaGrid’s President and CEO. “ExaGrid v5.0 is the first backup storage solution that provides fast backups at a rate of up to 200TB/hour per PB and fast restores with the ExaGrid landing zone coupled with performance load balancing and failover when working with Oracle RMAN.  There is no solution on the market that will come close to the ExaGrid approach for Oracle RMAN.”

ExaGrid’s v5.0 also supports Veeam’s newly-announced SOBR, which allows backup administrators using Veeam to direct all jobs to a single repository made up of ExaGrid shares across multiple ExaGrid appliances in a scale-out GRID, automating job management to ExaGrid appliances.  ExaGrid’s support of SOBR also automates the addition of appliances into an ExaGrid system as data grows by simply adding appliances to a Veeam repository group. The combination of Veeam SOBR and ExaGrid’s appliances in a scale-out GRID creates a tightly integrated end-to-end backup solution that allows backup administrators to leverage the advantages of scale-out in both the backup application as well as the backup storage. The combination of Veeam backups to the ExaGrid landing zone, the integrated ExaGrid-Veeam Accelerated Data Mover, and ExaGrid’s support of Veeam SOBR is the most a very tightly integrated solution on the market for a scale-out backup application to scale-out backup storage.

“ExaGrid continues to deepen its product integration with Veeam, driving unrivaled performance and value for the Always On Enterprise,” said Bill Andrews, ExaGrid’s President and CEO. “ExaGrid’s scale-out architecture when combined with Veeam SOBR delivers limitless scalability and effectively removes the obstacles to data growth encountered in first generation scale-up storage approaches, which can be costly and disruptive, particularly in larger data center environments.”

In addition, v5.0 also includes support for replicating from the primary site ExaGrid backup system to AWS for offsite disaster recovery. ExaGrid has always supported second-site replication from data center to data center and now also supports data center replication to AWS. ExaGrid’s approach of using an ExaGrid VM in AWS to AWS storage preserves many ExaGrid features when replicating to AWS, such as a single user interface for the onsite ExaGrid and the data in AWS, replication encryption, and bandwidth set and throttle. In addition, the v5.0 release supports encryption of data at rest in AWS. In the event of a disaster recovery, the backup application running in AWS or at a customer’s data center recovery site can request the data from the ExaGrid VM in Amazon for restores to any location. ExaGrid has complete support for disaster recovery to an ExaGrid at a second data center, to a rented third party data center, to an ExaGrid at hybrid cloud providers, and now to the public cloud.

“IT needs a new strategy, one that meets its expectations while also paving the way for true organizational resilience” said George Crump, Founder and President of Storage Switzerland, a leading IT analyst firm. “ExaGrid continues to demonstrate that it is one of those companies with the right technology at the right time. Its landing zone feature seems tailor-made to solve both backup and recovery performance issues, and its choice of a scale-out architecture is ideal for the use case. The scalability that ExaGrid’s systems provide enables customers to keep pace with their expanding data volumes without sacrificing performance, and release of its v5.0 continues the company’s push to build and deliver what IT data centers truly need for backup storage.”

In addition to support for Oracle RMAN Channels, Veeam SOBR, and AWS, v5.0 also extends its support for Veritas OST to include ExaGrid appliances as target backup storage for the NetBackup 5200 and 5300 series of media server appliances. ExaGrid’s implementation has been Veritas certified. In addition, ExaGrid has also extended in Veritas NetBackup OST implementations to include support of NetBackup media servers running IBM AIX.

With comprehensive security concerns constantly on the rise ExaGrid, has tightened its prevention of and recovery from ransomware attacks.

  • Comprehensive access security – ExaGrid shares can be accessed only from designated backup/media servers
  • SMB signing can be enabled for ExaGrid shares, requiring Windows account credentials to be authenticated and authorized before access is granted
  • Each ExaGrid server runs a proper firewall and a customized Linux distribution that only opens ports and runs only the services necessary for receiving backups, web-based GUI, and ExaGrid-to-ExaGrid replication.
  • Communications between ExaGrid servers is secured using Kerberos authorization and authentication, protecting from a “man in the middle” attack from malicious users or software.
  • If the primary storage is compromised, restores from ExaGrid are up to 20 times faster than any other deduplication appliance as ExaGrid stores the most recent backup in an undeduplicated form avoiding the data rehydration penalty of only storing deduplicated data. Users are back online faster.

ExaGrid’s Version 5.0 will ship in May 2017.

Westborough, Mass., April 12, 2017 – ExaGrid®, a leading provider of next generation disk-based backup storage with data deduplication solutions, today announced record bookings and revenue for Q1 2017. ExaGrid grew double digits over the same quarter of the prior year, continuing its trend of progressive growth at a faster rate than that of the overall market and consistent growth of its market share position. ExaGrid continues to demonstrate success in the enterprise market as evidenced by its posting of a record number of new customer six-figure deals in the current quarter.

“ExaGrid again posted a record quarter as the number of higher-value enterprise deals continues to rise, resulting in a higher ASP,” said Bill Andrews, CEO and President of ExaGrid. “We are seeing the larger enterprise customers looking for better performance at a lower cost than the first generation of backup storage solutions can provide, and that’s what ExaGrid is uniquely positioned to deliver.”

First generation deduplication solutions were either built into a backup application media server or into a scale-up storage appliance. Customers did not truly understand the negative impact of data deduplication on backup until they deployed the first generation of products. Westborough, Mass., January 10, 2017 – ExaGrid®, a leading provider of disk-based backup storage with data deduplication solutions, today announced record revenue for Q4 2016. In addition, Q4 was the company’s 12th consecutive cash positive quarter. ExaGrid grew double digits over the previous quarter and same quarter of the prior year as well as for the full year of 2016 over 2015. The company is growing faster than the overall market and continues to grow its market share position. ExaGrid’s continued success in its upmarket move into enterprise accounts was evidenced by a record number of six-figure new customer opportunities in the 4th quarter.

“ExaGrid had a strong record quarter in both North America and EMEA, and was cash positive for the 12th consecutive quarter,” said Bill Andrews, CEO and President of ExaGrid. “We are seeing a record number of customers move to ExaGrid’s next generation approach from the first generation inline/scale-up deduplication appliances as well as from backup software with deduplication to disk. Customers that deal with the day-to-day complexities of backup understand the unique value that ExaGrid’s scale-out architecture with landing zone brings to their data center environment.”

Westborough, Mass., December 21, 2016 – ExaGrid®, a leading provider of disk-based backup storage with data deduplication solutions, today announced that it has expanded its longstanding support of Veritas’ OpenStorage Technology (OST) to include the Veritas NetBackup 5200 and 5300 line of appliances, including the 5330 and 5340.

ExaGrid provides second-generation backup storage with adaptive data deduplication, a unique landing zone, and a scale-out storage architecture for the industry’s fastest backups, restores, and VM boots. Veritas NetBackup customers who utilize the Veritas NetBackup 5200 or 5300 appliances for their NetBackup master and media servers, but not for backup storage, can now take advantage of all of ExaGrid’s architectural advantages for long-term retention of backup data.

ExaGrid supports Veritas’ OST to provide deeper integration between Veritas’ backup applications and ExaGrid’s target-side backup appliances with deduplication and replication. This integration provides better backup performance and reliability as compared to CIFS or NAS and balances backup traffic across the network interfaces of all ExaGrid appliances in its GRID system.

Optimized duplication of backup images provides information to NetBackup about ExaGrid’s replicated backups, eliminating the need to catalog the remote backup copies and resulting in the fastest disaster recovery. In addition, flexible retention options allow longer-term retention at either the primary or secondary site(s) to better meet each customer’s specific disaster recovery requirements.

Optimized synthetic backups allow more frequent incremental backups (which reduces workload on backup clients) while maintaining the safety, convenience, and efficiency of regular full backups. NetBackup Auto Image Replication (AIR) automates and accelerates disaster recovery from one NetBackup domain to another NetBackup recovery domain so that when a disaster occurs, NetBackup at the disaster recovery site has all of the necessary catalog information already in place to immediately call for the data from the offsite ExaGrid system across backup domains.
The ExaGrid OST plug-in package can be downloaded from any ExaGrid server using the ExaGrid web-based GUI and loaded onto the Veritas NetBackup 5200 and 5300 Appliances following Veritas’ documented procedure. NetBackup’s Administrative Console is then used to configure NetBackup resources for the ExaGrid sites.

ExaGrid’s approach provides faster backups by performing deduplication after landing backups to disk. ExaGrid maintains the most recent non-deduplicated backups in a landing zone for fast restores and VM boots, and stores longer-term deduplicated retention data in its repository storage. Due to ExaGrid’s scale-out architecture, which adds compute with capacity, the backup window stays fixed in length even as data grows.

Westborough, Mass., December 20, 2016 – ExaGrid®, a leading provider of disk-based backup storage with data deduplication solutions, today announced that its EX40000E appliance has been honoured by SVC with its 2016 Product of the Year award in the Backup and Recovery/Archive category. Winners were announced at the SVC Awards Gala Ceremony on December 1 in London, UK.

The SVC Awards recognize the products, projects and services – as well as honor companies and teams – operating with excellence in the cloud, virtualization, and storage sectors. The SVC Awards also recognize the achievements of end users, channel partners, and vendors.

The ExaGrid EX40000E appliance is a scalable, cost-effective disk-based backup with data deduplication solution that revolutionizes how organizations back up and protect data. ExaGrid’s backup storage appliances can deduplicate and store data from over 25 industry-leading backup software applications. ExaGrid’s backup storage appliances have been architected from the ground up specifically for backup storage to address today’s demanding backup requirements and are optimized for superior backup and recovery performance.

“We are honored to accept this esteemed 2016 SVC Product of the Year award in the Backup and Recovery/Archive category,” said Bill Andrews, CEO of ExaGrid. “We believe it reflects ExaGrid’s position as the only backup storage vendor that has architected a solution with data deduplication that takes into consideration the performance challenges of deduplication for backup, restore, and VM boot performance. ExaGrid’s unique landing zone and scale-out backup storage is three times faster for ingest and over ten times faster for restores and VM boots than its closest competitor. In addition, ExaGrid is the only solution that provides a fixed-length backup window as data grows. With ExaGrid, IT can have the fastest backups, restores, and VM boots; a fixed-length backup window; and the ability to easily scale their systems, so they simply buy what they need as they need it.”

ExaGrid is a Veeam Software strategic alliance partner, and Veeam was also voted SVC Product of the Year in its category of Cloud Backup and Recovery/Archive. “We’re pleased to be in such good company. ExaGrid exemplifies strategic partnership – the company, its people, and most certainly its technology and product,” said Andy Vandeveld, Vice President of Global Strategic Alliances at Veeam. “It comes as no surprise that ExaGrid was voted Product of the Year in its category. ExaGrid has done extensive integration between its appliance and Veeam Availability solutions. ExaGrid brings data deduplication to save on disk storage and preserves the Veeam value proposition of VM boots and restores in seconds to minutes, keeping the ‘Always On’ datacenter available and responsive quickly and consistently. We congratulate ExaGrid on this impressive win!”

“Nominations for the SVC Awards 2016 were of very high quality and there was also a significant increase in the numbers of votes cast. The SVC Awards recognise the users, manufacturers and suppliers operating in the storage, virtualisation and cloud sectors and are voted for by the readers of our wide range of print and online publications” said Jason Holloway, Director of IT Publishing at Angel Business Communications, publishers of the Digitalisation World stable of titles. “All finalists did well in reaching the high standard shortlist, but ExaGrid was the clear winner in its category.”

ExaGrid’s EX40000E is the largest in the company’s product line and scales from a 40TB full backup up to a 1PB full backup by combining 25 EX40000Es in a scale-out GRID. The ingest rate of a full GRID is 200TB/hr., which is 3 times the ingest performance of the EMC Data Domain 9800 with DD Boost. ExaGrid’s unique landing zone not only allows for the fastest backups but also for the fastest restores and VM boots as ExaGrid maintains the most recent backup in its full undeduplicated form. ExaGrid is the only vendor that adds compute with capacity versus just adding disk shelves. This scale-out approach allows for performance to be added along with capacity growth, which provides for a fixed-length backup window as data grows.

This collaboration provides data storage solutions that comprehensively address an organization’s data storage needs. While Pure Storage provides all-flash primary storage, ExaGrid’s target-side backup storage appliances are best suited for organizations with longer-term backup retention needs, typically four weeks or more. Organizations that work with both ExaGrid and Pure Storage benefit from the price/performance of these next-generation products over the established brand solutions that offer earlier generations of data storage products.

“ExaGrid is receiving requests in record numbers from resellers who are seeing increasing demand for the next generation of best-of-breed storage solutions,” said Bill Andrews, CEO of ExaGrid. “This includes the combination of Pure Storage for primary storage and ExaGrid for backup storage, particularly in combination with Veeam for virtualized backup. In response, we are conducting an unprecedented number of end-user events that includes these next-generation storage companies.”

“Successful partnerships are those that blend the strengths of complementary products to deliver value beyond cost and speed,” said Andy Vandeveld, Vice President of Global Strategic Alliances at Veeam. “High-caliber products such as Pure Storage and ExaGrid further strengthen the performance that Veeam provides to its ‘Always-On’ customers. Today’s IT teams continue to be understaffed and have tight budgets, so introducing an end-to-end solution that puts an end to the traditional problems inherent to storage and backup brings immeasurable value. Our customers are the guardians of the data, and it’s expected to be there – not sometimes, not some of it, not two days from now; but 24.7.365. Only best of breed can deliver that availability with excellence – consistently and reliably. That’s the drumbeat that IT is expected to march to, and that’s what this partnership uniquely delivers.”

Customer validation has come from many segments, including the healthcare industry. Tennessee-based Williamson Medical Center has been using the three products together, and Sam Marsh, Engineering Team Lead, reports reliance on the integrated solution to work flawlessly. “In our virtualized environment, storing, backing up, and restoring data easily and efficiently is really important. The combination of Pure Storage All Flash, Veeam Backup & Replication, and ExaGrid disk-based backup with deduplication have provided us with superior end-to-end performance. Mission-critical applications require highly optimized storage, and I get incredible speed and performance with Pure Storage. ExaGrid provides not just the shortest backup window, but the fastest – and most reliable – data restores. Both Pure and ExaGrid have a scale-out architecture, so I can expand without taking the entire system down. Veeam connects the two and is highly integrated with ExaGrid to maximize backup speed and data deduplication. The three products couldn’t be easier to install and manage, and the capability and user experience are amazing.”

“We have seen tremendous demand from our enterprise customers to support the combination of Veeam and ExaGrid for protection of their business critical workloads running on all-flash storage. In particular, the solution is well-suited to customers in heavily-regulated industries, where long-term retention is required,” said Matt Kixmoeller, VP Products at Pure Storage. “Pure Storage has committed resources across engineering, marketing, sales, and support to bring this solution to market, and we look forward to working with Veeam and ExaGrid to deliver a world-class experience to customers in this important market segment.”

Supporting this best-of-breed solution are a number of industry awards and recognition. Gartner positioned ExaGrid as the sole “Visionary” in its most recent “Magic Quadrant for Deduplication Backup Target Appliances”1 while also naming Veeam a Leader in its 2016 “Magic Quadrant for Data Center Backup and Recovery Software”2 and Pure Storage a leader in its “Magic Quadrant for Solid-State Arrays” for the last three years3. ExaGrid was also named “Most Valuable Product” by Computer Technology Review and received Network Computing’s “Return on Investment” award. ExaGrid and Veeam were recently honored by Storage magazine/Searchstorage.com as “Products of the Year” in Backup Hardware and Backup & DR Software and Services, respectively. Veeam has received over 100 industry awards and was most recently recognized by Ovum as “The Leader” in its 2016 ODM report.

ExaGrid provides second-generation backup storage with adaptive data deduplication, a unique landing zone, and differentiated scale-out storage architecture. In contrast, first-generation appliances perform deduplication inline and have a scale-up architecture that does efficiently store deduplicated data but also slows down backups, restores, and VM boots.

ExaGrid Named ‘Recommended’ Solution for Disk Backup by DCIG http://www.exagrid.com/press-release/exagrid-named-recommended-solution-disk-backup-dcig/ http://www.exagrid.com/press-release/exagrid-named-recommended-solution-disk-backup-dcig/#respond Thu, 20 Oct 2016 13:00:52 +0000 admin http://staging.exagrid.com/?post_type=press-release&p=6183 Accredited Analyst Firm Ranks ExaGrid in the Top Positions in 2016-17 Buyer’s Guide Reports

Westborough, Mass., October 20, 2016 – ExaGrid, a leading provider of disk-based backup storage with data deduplication solutions, today announced that independent analyst firm DCIG once again ranked the ExaGrid disk-based backup appliance as “Recommended” in its recently published 2016-17 Deduplicating Backup Appliance Buyer’s Guides. This body of research assists organizations in matching their business and technical requirements for disk-based backup to best available products.

Dominating the buyer’s guide rankings, ExaGrid earned the top two positions in all four versions of the guide – the U.S. Enterprise, Sub-$100K, Sub-$75K, and Sub-$50K.

According to DCIG’s analysts, the report found that ExaGrid offers a unique architecture that combines a landing zone and full appliances in a scale-out GRID, differentiating the company from its competition. “This is the third consecutive year that ExaGrid has earned top-most positions in the DCIG Buyer’s Guides, which underscores the value of our differentiated product architecture and the speed and reliability it delivers,” said Bill Andrews, CEO of ExaGrid. “We’re very proud of this continued distinction.”

“The availability of DCIG’s body of research into backup appliances, coupled with the ability to quickly self-select the features that are ‘must-haves’ in an organization’s environment, changes the dynamic of how organizations can make these important buying decisions,” said DCIG’s President and Lead Analyst, Jerome Wendt. “Organizations now have better, more comprehensive, and more objective information at their fingertips than the vendors with whom they routinely engage. This puts organizations in a better position to make an informed product selection and provides a solid foundation for negotiating product purchases.”

According to the report, ExaGrid’s scale-out architecture, unique landing zone, and ongoing virtualization enhance¬ments helped the EX40000E and EX32000E appliances place in the “Recommended” grouping. Since DCIG’s last guide, ExaGrid added to its top-end capacity by introducing the EX40000E. The new offering includes a 33% increase in raw capacity per appliance, increases the maximum number of appliances in a single GRID from 14 to 25, and accommodates a full backup of up to 1PB at an ingest rate of 200TB/hr.

ExaGrid, Leading Disk-Based Backup Storage Appliance Vendor, Reports Record Revenue for Q3 2016 http://www.exagrid.com/press-release/exagrid-leading-disk-based-backup-storage-appliance-vendor-reports-record-revenue-q3-2016/ http://www.exagrid.com/press-release/exagrid-leading-disk-based-backup-storage-appliance-vendor-reports-record-revenue-q3-2016/#respond Wed, 05 Oct 2016 13:30:36 +0000 admin http://staging.exagrid.com/?post_type=press-release&p=6153 Company announces best 3rd quarter revenue in its history and hits 11th consecutive cash positive quarter

Westborough, Mass., October 5, 2016 – ExaGrid, a leading provider of disk-based backup storage with data deduplication solutions, today announced record Q3 revenue. This is also the company’s eleventh consecutive cash positive quarter. Marking continued success in its upmarket move into enterprise accounts, ExaGrid continues to book six-figure new customer opportunities

“ExaGrid is continuing to grow while remaining cash positive. We’ve found a business model that works,” said Bill Andrews, CEO of ExaGrid. “ExaGrid is the only backup storage company that overcomes the three compute challenges of backup storage with data deduplication. All vendors reduce storage and bandwidth to varying degrees, but only ExaGrid fixes the challenges of: backup ingest performance, restoring data and booting VMs from deduplicated data, and an expanding backup window as data grows,” said Andrews.

ExaGrid’s ingest is three times faster – and restores/VM boots are up to ten times faster – than its closest competitor due to its unique landing zone and scale-out architecture. In addition, since ExaGrid adds compute with capacity, the backup window remains fixed in length as data grows.

In Q3 2016, ExaGrid had another strong quarter for six-figure new customer opportunities as the company continues to push further up market into the Fortune 1000.

In addition to the financial milestones of record revenue and remaining cash positive, ExaGrid achieved the following in Q3:

  • DCIG ranked ExaGrid’s EX40000E and EX32000E in its top “Recommended” category in its 2016-17 Sub-$100K Deduplicating Backup Appliance Buyer’s Guide
  • SVC Awards selected ExaGrid’s EX40000E appliance as a “Product of the Year” Finalist in the Backup and Recovery/Archive category

ExaGrid continues to expand its worldwide reseller channel and add to its growing list of strategic partners, including Veeam, Nimble, and Zerto.

“ExaGrid has over 300 published customer success stories on its website, which is more than all other vendors in the space combined,” said Andrews. “This demonstrates how satisfied customers are with ExaGrid’s architectural approach, product, and customer support.”

ExaGrid EX40000E Named SVC Awards 2016 “Product of the Year” Finalist http://www.exagrid.com/press-release/exagrid-ex40000e-named-svc-awards-2016-product-year-finalist/ http://www.exagrid.com/press-release/exagrid-ex40000e-named-svc-awards-2016-product-year-finalist/#respond Tue, 04 Oct 2016 13:00:56 +0000 admin http://staging.exagrid.com/?post_type=press-release&p=6150 Disk-Based Backup Appliance Recognized in Backup and Recovery/Archive Category

Westborough, Mass., October 4, 2016 – ExaGrid, a leading provider of disk-based backup storage with data deduplication solutions, today announced that its EX40000E appliance has been named a finalist for a 2016 Storage, Virtualization, Cloud (SVC) Award in the “Backup and Recovery/Archive Product of the Year” category.

The ExaGrid EX40000E appliance was shortlisted as it stood out as a scalable, cost-effective disk-based backup with data deduplication solution that revolutionizes how organizations back up and protect data. ExaGrid appliances have been architected from the ground up specifically for backup to address today’s demanding backup requirements and are optimized for superior backup and recovery performance.

“The SVC Awards’ finalists represent today’s most innovative technologies and technology deployments, demonstrating highly impressive real-world IT and business results, as well as fast time-to-value and ROI,” said Jason Holloway, Director of IT Publishing at Angel Business Communications, organizers of the SVC Awards. “We congratulate ExaGrid together with all of the finalists on this important accomplishment, and wish all of them the best of luck during the final voting process.”

ExaGrid’s EX40000E is the largest in the company’s product line and scales from a 40TB full backup up to a 1PB full backup by combining 25 EX40000Es in a scale-out GRID. The ingest rate of a full GRID is 200TB/hr., which is 3 times the ingest performance of the EMC Data Domain 9500 with DD Boost.

“We are honored to have been chosen by the esteemed 2016 SVC Awards judges as a finalist for this award,” said Bill Andrews, CEO of ExaGrid. “We believe it reflects ExaGrid’s position as the only backup storage appliance that features data deduplication implemented in a way that ensures the fastest backups, restores, recoveries and tape copies; works seamlessly across physical and virtual environments; maintains a backup window that’s fixed in length and doesn’t expand as data grows; and eliminates forklift upgrades and product obsolescence — IT staff buy what they need, as they need it.”

The SVC Awards recognize the products, projects and services, as well as honor companies and teams, operating with excellence in the cloud, virtualization, and storage sectors. The SVC Awards also recognize the achievements of end-users, channel partners and vendors alike. Voting opened on October 3 and closes on November 11: http://www.svcawards.com/voting.php. Winners will be announced at the SVC Awards Gala Ceremony on December 1 at the Royal Garden Hotel (London, UK).

Westborough, Mass., July 12, 2016 – ExaGrid, a leading provider of disk-based backup storage with data deduplication solutions, today announced that it is continuing its rapid growth in the disk-based backup storage market with record revenue in Q2 2016. ExaGrid grew revenue with double-digit growth over the same quarter a year ago, making it the best revenue quarter in the company’s history and the company’s tenth consecutive cash positive quarter. ExaGrid also booked a record number of six-figure new customer opportunities as the company continues to push further up market into the enterprise.

“ExaGrid is continuing to grow faster than the overall disk-based backup market and as a result is growing its market share position,” said Bill Andrews, CEO of ExaGrid. “ExaGrid believes it is the only storage company that is growing at a double-digit rate while maintaining a cash positive position quarter after quarter. ExaGrid’s systems scale to a one petabyte full backup in a single scale-out GRID with an ingest rate of 200TB/hr. while delivering the fastest restores and VM boots due to its unique landing zone and scale-out architecture. As a result, ExaGrid is replacing larger EMC Data Domain installations at an increasing rate.”

In Q2 2016, ExaGrid booked a record number of six-figure new customer opportunities as ExaGrid continues to push further up market into the enterprise. In larger data centers, ExaGrid’s unique scale-out architecture and landing zone shorten backup windows due to an ingest rate that is three times faster than that of its closest competitor and can restore a backup, boot a VM, or make an offsite tape copy up to ten times faster.

In addition to the financial milestones of record revenue and continued cash positive status, ExaGrid announced the following quarterly milestones:

  • Awarded best “Value for the Money” product of the year by Storage magazine
  • Go-to-market field events with Veeam, Nimble Storage, and Zerto

“ExaGrid is the only company in the space that assigns level 2 support technicians to customers so that each customer deals with the same senior support person all the time. Customers rave about our support model,” said Andrews. “As a result, ExaGrid saw a record number of repeat order bookings in Q2 2016 as customers continue to expand their ExaGrid footprint.”

London – June 28, 2016 – ExaGrid, a leading provider of disk-based backup storage with data deduplication, announced today that its EX40000E appliance has been named Storage Magazine’s ‘Value for the Money’ product of the year at their annual awards ceremony. Winners were determined by a public vote, once again validating the excellence of the technology and service delivered by ExaGrid to its customers and partners.

“Being honored with the ‘Value for the Money’ award is fantastic recognition of the industry-leading price/performance of the EX40000E,” said Andy Walsky, ExaGrid’s Vice President of EMEA Sales. “Organizations continue to tighten their IT budgets and mandate that staff do more with less. From our base of over 10,000 customer installations and hundreds of partners, we’re consistently hearing that customers choose ExaGrid appliances over other systems for faster backup and restore performance, VM boots in seconds to minutes, cost-effective scalability, and all-around superior value in terms of price/performance.”

The EX40000E appliance is ExaGrid’s most powerful appliance in its product line arsenal. It is 66% more dense than its predecessor, providing capacity for a 40TB full backup in a 3U appliance. Leveraging the strength of ExaGrid’s scale-out GRID technology, up to 25 EX40000E appliances can be combined in a single scale-out GRID system, allowing for a 1PB full backup. The EX40000E has a maximum ingest rate of 8TB/hr. per appliance, so with 25 EX40000Es in a scale-out GRID, the maximum ingest rate is 200TB/hr., which is 3.5 times the ingest performance of the EMC Data Domain 9500 with DD Boost.

ExaGrid’s unique landing zone stores the most recent backups in their full undeduplicated form for restore, recovery, and VM boot performance that is up to ten times faster than inline deduplication appliances such as EMC Data Domain’s, which only store deduplicated data. ExaGrid’s landing zone can allow a VM boot in seconds to single-digit minutes versus hours for appliances that store only deduplicated data.

All other solutions deduplicate data inline, which does allow for storage savings and replicated bandwidth savings; however, these systems break backup windows up front and especially over time as data grows. In addition, they are painfully slow for restores, offsite tape copies, and VM boots because the data has to be rehydrated for every restore request.

“Many of the solutions on the market just can’t keep up with a short backup window requirement in the face of rapid data growth,” said Walsky. “Furthermore, with more and more organizations virtualizing, they need just-in-time recovery by being able to boot VMs in seconds to minutes. Only ExaGrid can meet all of these requirements.”

The EX40000E appliance, which houses 96TB of raw and 78TB of usable data, can take in up to a 40TB full backup and store it as undeduplicated data in a front-end landing zone for fast restores and recoveries as well as maintaining a long-term historical version in a deduplicated data repository.

The ExaGrid scale-out approach brings compute with capacity – adding processor, memory and network ports as well as disk – allowing the backup window to stay fixed in length even as data grows. This approach is unique to ExaGrid and makes it the only disk-based backup system that maintains a fixed-length backup window.

Westborough, Mass., May 11, 2016 – ExaGrid, a leading provider of disk-based backup storage with data deduplication, today announced that Yee-ching Chao, ExaGrid’s former Senior Vice President of Engineering, has rejoined the company in the same capacity.

Yee-ching was originally with ExaGrid for six years. He spent the last two years working for Amazon in Seattle, Washington and now rejoins ExaGrid. He has over 30 years of product development and management experience, and has held key positions at Netezza, Charles River Development, and Siebel Systems.

“ExaGrid’s engineering team has unwavering focus on product excellence and technical innovation. I’m excited to once again lead product development as ExaGrid continues its move up market to larger enterprise environments,” said Yee-ching.

Bill Andrews, President and CEO of ExaGrid, said, “We welcome Yee-ching’s return to once again drive our engineering efforts. With his in-depth knowledge of our technology, product roadmap, and organization, he brings unique strength to our business as well as insight and expertise that few others possess.”

ExaGrid continued its move up market into larger accounts with its release earlier this year of its largest appliance to date – the EX40000E, which can take in up to a 1 petabyte full backup at an ingest rate of 200TB per hour; this is three times faster than its closest competitor. With its unique landing zone, ExaGrid delivers restores and VM boots that are five to ten times faster than any other provider of backup storage with data deduplication. The unique landing zone stores the most recent backups in their full undeduplicated form for restore, recovery, and VM boot performance that is up to ten times faster than inline deduplication appliances, such as EMC Data Domain’s, which only store deduplicated data. ExaGrid’s landing zone allows a VM boot in seconds to single-digit minutes versus hours for appliances that store only deduplicated data.

ExaGrid’s products are target-side backup storage appliances for longer-term backup retention needs, typically four weeks or more. Nimble provides primary, archive, and backup storage for shorter-term retention periods. Organizations that work with both ExaGrid and Nimble benefit from the price/performance of these next-generation products over the established brand solutions that can only offer earlier generations of storage products.

“ExaGrid continues to receive calls from resellers who want to sell the best of breed solutions – what they refer to as the ‘triumvirate’ of next-generation products,” said Bill Andrews, CEO of ExaGrid. “This includes Nimble for primary storage, Veeam for backup software, and ExaGrid for backup storage. We are getting a record number of reseller requests for combined events that include all three companies.”

“Nimble Storage customers can create highly efficient snapshots to reduce complexities associated with traditional backup,” said Dan Leary, vice president, corporate development, solutions and alliances at Nimble Storage. “The combined solutions are designed to provide customers with a complete data protection offering, combining the speed and efficiency of Nimble snapshots with ExaGrid for longer-term backup and archive.”

ExaGrid and Nimble are growing quickly and are regularly validated and recognized by industry analysts and pundits. Gartner positioned ExaGrid was positioned as the sole Visionary in the 2015 Magic Quadrant for Deduplication Backup Target Appliances1 and was also recently honored by Storage magazine/Searchstorage.com as “Product of the Year, Backup Storage.” ExaGrid was named “Most Valuable Product” by Computer Technology Review and also received Network Computing’s “Return on Investment” award.

Nimble Storage was named a Leader in the 2015 Gartner Magic Quadrant for General-Purpose Disk Arrays2 and was previously positioned by Gartner as a Visionary in the Magic Quadrant in the same category for two consecutive years. The report analyzes providers of mid-range, high-end, and network-attached storage systems and hybrid arrays. More than 7,500 customers have deployed the Nimble Predictive Flash Platform across more than 50 countries. The Predictive Flash Platform combines flash performance with predictive analytics to predict and prevent barriers to data velocity caused by complex IT infrastructure. Nimble customers experience absolute performance, non-stop availability, and cloud-like agility that accelerate critical business processes.

ExaGrid provides second-generation backup storage with adaptive data deduplication, a unique landing zone, and a differentiated scale-out storage architecture. In contrast, first-generation appliances perform deduplication inline and have a scale-up architecture that efficiently stores deduplicated data but slows down backups, restores, and VM boots.

Westborough, Mass., April 20, 2016 – ExaGrid, a leading provider of disk-based backup storage with data deduplication solutions, today announced that it has been added to the Veeam® Alliance Attach Program, which encourages solution selling of ExaGrid’s and Veeam’s complementary technologies through the reseller channel. Veeam® Software is the innovative provider of solutions that deliver Availability for the Always-On Enterprise™. The program offers an additional discount to Gold-and Platinum-level resellers when Veeam Backup & Replication™ or Veeam Availability Suite™ and an ExaGrid backup storage system are sold together as an integrated solution.

Veeam and ExaGrid are dedicated to the reseller channel and collaborate with their resellers on end-to-end customized virtualized solutions for backup and backup storage. In addition to the strong registration programs that each company offers to qualified resellers, the Veeam Alliance Attach Program provides additional reseller margin for each registered opportunity.

“Veeam and ExaGrid have a longstanding and continuously expanding partnership dating back to 2010,” said Bill Andrews, CEO of ExaGrid. “ExaGrid has always viewed Veeam as a visionary that is ahead of the curve. We’ve seen Veeam quickly become a dominant player in the availability market and are thrilled to further strengthen our partnership by making the sale of our joint solution more lucrative for our mutual resellers.”

Designed specifically to enable availability, Veeam provides fast VM backups and VM boots in seconds to minutes. ExaGrid’s unique landing zone keeps the most recent Veeam backups in their native, undeduplicated form to deliver on Veeam’s value proposition of helping organizations meet recovery time and point objectives (RTPO™) of less than 15 minutes for all applications and data. Long-term retention data is stored in deduplicated form, and as data grows, ExaGrid’s unique scale-out architecture keeps the backup window fixed in length by adding compute with capacity.

ExaGrid is the only backup storage system that has Veeam’s data mover integrated, which – when compared to straight disk – improves backups by 30% and performs synthetic full backups up to six times faster. When compared to inline data deduplication appliances, ExaGrid provides three times the ingest performance and five to ten times the restore performance because ExaGrid avoids compute-intensive deduplication during the backup window as well as the time-consuming rehydration of data when restoring or booting a VM.

Westborough, Mass., February 23, 2016 – ExaGrid, a leading provider of disk-based backup storage with data deduplication and sole Visionary in Gartner’s 2015 “Magic Quadrant for Deduplication Backup Target Appliances,”1 today announced that its EX32000E appliance has been named “Product of the Year in Backup Hardware” by Storage magazine/SearchStorage.com.

These annual awards, now in their 14th year, showcase the year’s latest and greatest innovations in technology. A total of 146 nominees were judged by a panel of Storage magazine/SearchStorage.com writers and editors, users, analysts, and consultants. Eighteen winners were chosen from a total of 70 finalists across six categories based on performance, ease of integration and use, manageability, functionality, and value.
According to Storage magazine’s Sonia Lelii, “Winners in the backup hardware group for the 2015 Products of the Year awards faced a crowded competition this year […] The hardware among backup vendors continues to evolve, with sellers emphasizing the use of deduplication to shorten backup windows and systems that are more efficient.”

ExaGrid’s EX32000E v4.9 increased full backup capacity to 32TB per appliance and 800TB per single scale-out GRID. (ExaGrid’s subsequent release of its EX40000E appliance further increased full backup capacity to 40TB per appliance and with 25 appliances in a scale-out GRID, a single system can take in up to a 1PB full backup with total ingest of 200TB/hr. In contrast, the EMC Data Domain 9500 can only scale to an 860TB full backup with ingest of 58TB/hr. using DD Boost. ExaGrid scales larger and provides over three times the backup ingest rate of the DD9500.) With ExaGrid’s unique landing zone, restores, offsite tape copies, and VM boots are five to ten times faster than its closest competitor.

The v4.9 release provides global deduplication, which ensures that all data is deduplicated across all NAS shares and appliances in a GRID. Global deduplication also provides the flexibility to redirect backup jobs to any NAS share, on any appliance, at any time while maintaining data deduplication globally across the entire GRID.

ExaGrid’s v4.9 release also enhanced support for Oracle RMAN Channels, which provides the ability to back up Oracle databases up to 800TB in size (subsequently increased to 1PB with the EX40000E) and to write to multiple NAS shares across multiple devices for optimal backup performance and failover.

“We are thrilled to have been chosen by the Storage magazine/SearchStorage.com panel of judges as recipient of Product of the Year in Backup Hardware,” said ExaGrid’s CEO, Bill Andrews. “This top distinction further validates ExaGrid’s unique architecture and second generation approach of using a landing zone and scale-out architecture for disk-based backup with data deduplication.”

Comparatively, other vendors simply add data deduplication to a scale-up storage architecture (i.e., front-end controller with disk shelves) or to the backup application media server. ExaGrid’s unique approach provides up to a 3X ingest performance; a 5X to 10X restore, tape copy, and boot performance; and a fixed-length backup window as data grows. ExaGrid has the only second generation product on the market.

With 25 in a GRID, the New EX40000E Appliance Offers a Larger Full Backup Capacity, 3.5x the Ingest Performance and 10x the Restore and VM Boot Performance of EMC Data Domain at a Lower Price

Westborough, Mass., January 12, 2016 – Today, ExaGrid, a leading provider of disk-based backup solutions, announced the largest, most powerful appliance in its arsenal of backup solutions with data deduplication: the EX40000E.

The EX40000E appliance is 66% more dense than its predecessor, providing capacity for a 40TB full backup in a 3U appliance.

“ExaGrid implemented data deduplication for storage and bandwidth efficiency but realized that doing so creates three new compute problems,” said Bill Andrews, CEO of ExaGrid. “With ExaGrid’s landing zone and scale-out architecture, all critical requirements of backup are met: storage and bandwidth efficiency; the fastest ingest for the shortest backup window; scale-out architecture that brings compute with capacity to keep the backup window fixed over time as data grows; and the fastest restores, offsite tape copies, and VM boots in seconds to minutes via the ExaGrid landing zone. ExaGrid built a true backup storage solution versus a deduplication appliance.”

The new EX40000E appliance, which houses 96TB of raw and 78TB of usable data, can take in a 40TB full backup and store it as undeduplicated data in a front-end landing zone for fast restores and recoveries, and maintains a long-term historical version in a deduplicated data repository.

“Many of the solutions on the market just can’t keep up with a short backup window requirement in the face of rapid data growth,” said Andrews. “Furthermore, with the advent of virtualization, organizations need just-in-time recovery by booting VMs in seconds to minutes. Only ExaGrid can meet all of these requirements.”

The ExaGrid scale-out approach brings compute with capacity – adding processor, memory and network ports as well as disk – allowing the backup window to stay fixed in length even as data grows. This approach is unique to ExaGrid and makes it the only disk-based backup system that maintains a fixed length backup window.

A Growing Network of Partners and Support
Understanding and appreciating the complexity of robust backup at organizations of all kinds, ExaGrid supports a growing number of backup applications and utilities.

At the enterprise level, ExaGrid works with a number of solutions, including Veeam, Oracle RMAN, Veritas NetBackup, Veritas Backup Exec, EMC NetWorker, IBM TSM, Commvault Simpana, and over 18 other backup applications and utilities. Leveraging ExaGrid with any of these applications gives IT departments the best of all worlds with:

  • the fastest ingest performance for the shortest backup windows;
  • integration with Veeam’s version V9, further improving ExaGrid’s high ingest rate for even faster backup performance. Supports new per-virtual machine (VM) backup file chain option, improved local backup copy performance, and further simplification of Veeam/ExaGrid setup;
  • the most recent backups in their native, undeduplicated form in the landing zone for the fastest restores, offsite tape copies, and VM boots; and
  • a fixed length backup window – even as data grows – due to full appliances in a scale-out GRID with processor, memory, and bandwidth with disk capacity expansion.

Westborough, Mass., Jan. 6, 2016 – Revolutionary backup storage provider ExaGrid announced today that it had a record year in 2015 and grew over 20% from 2014 to 2015. ExaGrid was cash positive for all four quarters in 2015 and for the year, and has been cash positive for eight consecutive quarters. The company is consistently ranked “best at disk-based backup storage with deduplication” by leading experts and as the only vendor in the “Visionary” quadrant in the 2015 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Deduplication Backup Target Appliances 1 is positioned for an even more successful year in 2016. ExaGrid is growing faster than the overall disk-based backup storage with data deduplication market and is gaining market share.

As the only provider of backup storage with data deduplication with a unique landing zone and scale-out architecture, ExaGrid offers the industry’s fastest backups; the fastest restores, recoveries, and offsite tape copies; VM boots in seconds to minutes; and permanently fixes the backup window length as data grows. ExaGrid also eliminates the forklift upgrades and product obsolescence of the big backup storage vendors.

Turning it up in 2015, ExaGrid highlights include:

  • Record top line bookings and revenue year
  • Over 20% top line growth compared to 2014
  • All four quarters of cash positive operation
  • Strong growth in six-figure new customer opportunities
  • ASP increased by 40% due to ExaGrid moving up market to larger terabyte data centers
  • Surpassed 10,000 appliances sold
  • Increased the scalable backup storage GRID to ingest a one petabyte full backup
  • The only vendor in the “Visionary” quadrant in the 2015 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Deduplication Backup Target Appliances 1
  • Integrated with Oracle RMAN Channels for performance balancing and failover
  • Shipped the integrated Veeam Accelerated Data Mover with ExaGrid appliances
  • Significant expansion of the sales organization in EMEA

“ExaGrid continues to move up market into more enterprise accounts, now selling into both the mid-market and enterprise,” said Bill Andrews, CEO of ExaGrid. “ExaGrid has the only solution that can keep up with IT environments that need fast ingest, a fixed-length backup window as data grows with fast restores and offsite tape copies, and VM boots in seconds to minutes. Virtualization has changed backup from merely restoring data to booting entire machines, and only ExaGrid’s landing zone and scale-out architecture can meet the new requirements.”

Vendors such as EMC Data Domain deduplicate data inline, which slows backups down and expands the backup window as data grows. In addition, requests for data restores are slow since the other vendors store only deduplicated data, which needs to be rehydrated for each request. Compared to EMC Data Domain, ExaGrid provides five times the restore, offsite tape copy, and VM boot performance (seconds to minutes vs. hours for EMC); keeps the backup window fixed as data grows; and provides ingest speed of almost four times that of EMC Data Domain.

“Backup storage with data deduplication is an over $3B market segment and, as result, ExaGrid has a lot of room to grow,” said Andrews. “We are hiring sales staff worldwide as quickly as we can.”

ExaGrid’s customers have tens of terabytes of data upwards to petabytes of data and typically deploy a second site ExaGrid appliance for disaster recovery. ExaGrid’s market is well above the SMB market where customers typically have less than 10TB of data and use a cloud solution for disaster recovery. ExaGrid’s customers use their own second data center for lower cost, high security, and fast recovery from site disasters. “Although the cloud is good for archive data, is it not conducive to backup data as it is too expensive, too slow, not secure, and virtually impossible to recover,” said Andrews.

A Year of Technological Innovation – Oracle Database Backups

ExaGrid supports Oracle RMAN Channels targeted at multiple NAS shares across multiple appliances in a scale-out GRID. RMAN Channels automatically writes “sections” in parallel to all NAS shares and automatically redirects the next “section” based on available targets. RMAN Channels with ExaGrid has five major advantages:

  • The Oracle database can be hundreds of terabytes in size and can be backed up in parallel to a single ExaGrid scale-out GRID.
  • The database backup performance is accelerated as the sections are backed up in parallel across multiple appliances in a scale-out GRID.
  • If any appliance in a GRID fails, the segments are automatically redirected to the active appliances, providing for automatic failover – which allows database backups to occur if an appliance fails.
  • The most recent database is stored in an undeduplicated form in the ExaGrid landing zone allowing for the fastest restores while still allowing for storage efficiency as all long-term retention data is stored in deduplicated form. This avoids the lengthy data rehydration process of inline scale-up appliances that only store deduplicated data.
  • As the database data grows, the backup window stays fixed in length as full appliances are added into a scale-out GRID bringing compute with capacity. This eliminates the forklift upgrades associated with inline scale-up deduplication appliances.

Praise from the Experts

ExaGrid continues to receive accolades from renowned industry experts like Gartner and Storage Switzerland. Gartner positioned ExaGrid as the sole company in the Visionary quadrant of the 2015 “Magic Quadrant for Deduplication Backup Target Appliances.” 1 Gartner defines “visionaries” as companies that deliver innovative products with capabilities that are often ahead of the mainstream in the market. George Crump, President, Founder and Lead Analyst of Storage Switzerland comments on ExaGrid’s recent v4.9 release: “Most solutions cannot take in a single multi-hundred terabyte Oracle RMAN backup. Most other backup architectures have a single front-end controller with scale-up disk shelves, and if the controller fails, all backups fail. But with ExaGrid, if there are eight appliances in a GRID and one fails, Oracle RMAN channels will redirect the backups to the remaining seven operational appliances so that backups can continue uninterrupted. This is critical for Oracle environments since a missed nightly backup can cause a lot of IT disruption the next day.”

In 2015, ExaGrid won numerous awards, including Computer Technology Review and IT Security Journal’s MVP (Most Valuable Product) award. Kim Kay, Associate Publisher & Editor-in-Chief of WestWorldWide, LLC included ExaGrid in its “elite group of innovative technology solutions that represent the standout leaders in their respective categories – solutions which we think should be at the top of every IT professional’s evaluation shortlist.”

Westborough, Mass., December 1, 2015 – ExaGrid®, a leading provider of disk-based backup storage with data deduplication, today announced that it has partnered with Zerto, setting the standard for protection, recovery and migration of data in cloud and virtualized data centers, to deliver complementary solutions – continuous data protection along with long-term archiving – greatly improving performance and cost efficiency in IT datacenters. Customers using both ExaGrid and Zerto have a cost-effective, offsite, disk-based backup solution that employs data deduplication for long-term retention of offsite business continuity/disaster recovery (BC/DR) VMs with a small storage footprint. Organizations can protect all of their production workloads, achieving faster recovery times even as they reduce long-term storage costs.

Zerto provides enterprise-class BC/DR of mission-critical workloads from the primary site to an offsite disaster recovery site, in addition to continuous replications. Zerto’s backups can then be replicated to, and protected by, an ExaGrid system using data deduplication for cost-effective storage and long-term retention of BC/DR VMs with easy setup and management. With ExaGrid’s unique architecture, the most recent Zerto backup of Tier One VMs in a Virtual Protection Group (VPG) is first stored in an ExaGrid Landing Zone in its native format for fast Zerto VM restores and boots.
Long-term retention copies of these offsite backups are then stored in the ExaGrid repository as deduplicated data, resulting in a reduced storage footprint that allows extended retention policies to be met at a greatly reduced storage cost. The combination of Zerto’s Offsite Backup and the ExaGrid Landing Zone plus repository offers best-in-class comprehensive protection of mission-critical VM data.

“The value that Zerto delivers has always been around making BC/DR a seamless, responsive and reliable strategy, and our partnership with ExaGrid extends the benefits of our offsite backup solution for organizations that need fast and cost-effective data protection,” said Paul Zeiter, President, Zerto. “The combination of continuous data replication and deduplication technologies will give end-users the flexibility to better manage their data and protect it over the long term.”

“The partnership between Zerto and ExaGrid is very symbiotic,” said Bill Andrews, CEO and President of ExaGrid. “We’re pleased to offer ExaGrid’s disk-based backup storage with Zerto’s live disaster recovery of mission-critical VMs. ExaGrid’s unique Landing Zone provides the ability to very quickly restore mission-critical VMs and VM data because the data is immediately available in its full, undeduplicated form – which means it doesn’t need to be rehydrated or reassembled prior to being restored. In addition, with ExaGrid’s data deduplication, Zerto offsite backups can be stored cost efficiently for longer-term retention. This provides the fastest possible restores in the event of a disaster as well as the ability to roll back to older versions. Typically, customers find that they can extend retention because only deduplicated data is stored in the repository, minimizing footprint which results in maximizing storage – and investment.”

In addition to storing Zerto backups, ExaGrid can sit behind the nightly backup application at the primary site and provide protection for all backups – virtual and physical. ExaGrid can replicate the daily changed data to the offsite system for a second offsite copy for “all data” offsite disaster recovery. ExaGrid’s largest system has an ingest rate that is two to three times faster and a restore rate that is five to ten times faster than its closest competitor. ExaGrid’s unique Landing Zone and scale-out GRID architecture allow for faster backups, resulting in a shorter backup window, restores and VM boot speeds that are as much as ten times faster than competitive solutions, and a fixed-length backup window as data grows. The overall cost is lower up front and over time as compared to the large brand vendors.
