Gartner, a technology research and analyst firm, has named ExaGrid Systems to its "Cool Vendors in Data Protection" list as part of its March 20, 2008 report, “Cool Vendors in Data Protection, 2008,” by Dave Russell and John P. Morency at Gartner, Inc.
ExaGrid: Simply State-0f-the-Art D2D
Taneja Group, July 2008
Industry Analyst Technology Validation Report
Abstract:
D2D end-users consistently state that they need more than feature parity with traditional backup infrastructures: they need simple deployment, solid delivery on clear performance promises, and greater management capability than the tape systems the D2D solutions are replacing. This Technology Validation by the experts at Taneja Group sets real expectations for end users in a simulated end-user environment by testing one D2D product: the ExaGrid EX5000. Our Technology Validation reports on product capabilities and performance help end-users to understand what products and features will benefit them the most – and help vendors understand how to provide it. Our findings from testing the ExaGrid EX-5000? ExaGrid brings some game changing capabilities to the mid-sized D2D market including: simple ease of use, high performance, true scalability, effective, high performing de-duplication, and a full set of backup infrastructure features.
Few vendors are offering D2D solutions today with the pay-as-you-grow scalability, high performance, ease of use, and the full feature set that ExaGrid brings to the table. In this Technology Validation, we’ll look first at some of the common challenges that businesses face when implementing D2D backup, and then walk-through our validation of how ExaGrid delivers a solution for each of these challenges.
ESG Lab Validation Report: ExaGrid Systems
Claude Bouffard with Brian Garrett
Enterprise Strategy Group, March 2008
Industry Analyst Lab Validation Report
Abstract:
A growing number of organizations are embracing disk-based backup solutions to improve backup performance, eliminate tape media management issues and improve the speed and reliability of recovery operations. This ESG Lab report explores how the ExaGrid disk-based backup system uses byte level data de-duplication to provide space efficient capacity optimization, fast and reliable backup and recovery performance and WAN-optimized remote replication using a virtualized pool of network attached disk capacity that works with existing backup software, policies and procedures.
ExaGrid: A Scalable Approach to Disk-based Backup
Taneja Group, June 2007
Industry Analyst Product Profile
Abstract:
"With a true next-generation architecture, ExaGrid leverages the economic benefits of industry-standard hardware on a “scale-out” grid platform. The ExaGrid platform perfectly represents where the entire industry must follow: Easily deployed, self-contained disk-based data protection ‘clusters’ designed to fit into any existing enterprise data center and deliver results out-of-the-box."
ExaGrid: Disk-to-Disk Backup

Industry Analysts
Abstract:
"ESG has been an advocate of disk-based backup for several years. Why? The potential benefits speak for themselves: improved backup and recovery performance, easier management, better reliability, etc. Backing up to and recovering from disk-based platforms is not only faster than tape, but it is also more efficient (from a management standpoint) and more reliable, largely because there is a lot less human handling required. And with the advent of capacity optimization technologies such as compression, delta differencing and data de-duplication, the appeal of disk-based backup is that much greater. Reduced capacity requirements, longer retention periods and new and/or expanded remote backup options are all byproducts of data de-duplication. The value that ExaGrid solutions provide transcends that of traditional tape-based backup solutions."
