Disaster Recovery FAQs

Disaster Recovery FAQs

1. What if I just want disk-based backup onsite only?

That’s fine, you can use ExaGrid onsite and still make tapes to go offsite.

2. If I  have a second data center, does ExaGrid have replication?

Yes, we can replicate from a primary data center to a second data center. If there is data at both data centers, ExaGrid can cross replicate. If you have multiple data centers, ExaGrid can replicate the data from the data centers to a central data center and replicate the unique data at that data center out to one of the other data centers with nine in a group.

3. What if I have tens or hundreds of remote sites without data centers?

ExaGrid recommends that with small remote sites, you do one of two things:

  • Replicate the data back to corporate to be backed up (this is what most companies do);

or

  • Get a cloud service and replicate the data from the remote sites to a cloud service (this works well for under a few hundred GB).

4. I don’t have a second data center. What can I do?

You can put an ExaGrid in a third-party data center or hosting facility.

5. What if I don’t want to have a dedicated ExaGrid and just want to replicate my DR data to the cloud and pay by the GB?

We have a relationship with ATScloud where you can replicate your onsite ExaGrid data to their BDRcloud and pay by the GB.
