Vendors Selected for the Cool Vendor Report are Innovative, Impactful, and Intriguing
Westborough, – Mass. March 24, 2008 – ExaGrid Systems, Inc. (http://www.exagrid.com), the leader in cost-effective and scalable disk-based backup solutions with byte-level data de-duplication, today announced that Gartner, a technology research and analyst firm, has named ExaGrid Systems to its “Cool Vendors in Data Protection, 2008” list as part of its March 20, 2008 report, “Cool Vendors in Data Protection, 2008,” by Dave Russell and John P. Morency at Gartner, Inc.
This year’s “Cool Vendors in Data Protection” report points to a focus on new and less-expensive disk-based backup options that make the use of disk for faster backup and recovery a more viable option than traditional backup-to-tape methods. The report also notes that Gartner has seen a significant uptake in the adoption of disk-based recovery solutions in 2007 and early 2008. ExaGrid Systems, Inc. was highlighted by Gartner, which analyzes individual innovative vendors’ services and products in its annual Cool Vendor reports.
“Gartner is among the most trusted industry analyst and research firms the world over, so we’re especially proud to be named to Gartner’s ‘Cool Vendors’ list for Data Protection,” said Bill Andrews, president and CEO, ExaGrid Systems, Inc. “ExaGrid helps customers dramatically improve the way they back-up data. Our disk-based backup system with byte-level data de-duplication delivers very reliable, high-speed backups and restores, and efficient replication of backup data to an offsite ExaGrid system if offsite tape elimination is desired — all at a price that’s often lower than both tape backup and other competing solutions.”
The ExaGrid system is a turnkey, plug-and-play solution that works with customers’ existing backup applications and enables faster and more reliable backups and restores. Customers report that backup time is reduced by 30 to 80 percent over traditional tape backup. ExaGrid’s patented byte-level data de-duplication technology and most recent backup compression, coupled with high-quality SATA storage, reduces the amount of disk space needed by a range of 10:1 to 50:1, or more, resulting in a price about the same as tape, and about 25% the price of standard disk storage.

About Gartner’s Cool Vendors Selection Process:
Gartner defines a cool vendor as a company that offers technologies or solutions that are: Innovative, enable users to do things they couldn’t do before; Impactful, have, or will have, business impact (not just technology for the sake of technology); Intriguing, have caught Gartner’s interest or curiosity in approximately the past six months.
Gartner’s listing does not constitute an exhaustive list of vendors in any given technology area, but rather is designed to highlight interesting, new and innovative vendors, products and services. Gartner disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied, with respect to this research, including any warranties of merchantability or fitness of a particular purpose.
